BIKETRAIN

an MCBC event (415) 289-2249

Saturday, October 16: Bikeride from Point Reyes to the Larkspur Ferry

This ride is for families, children, and anyone who sits in gridlock
thinking, "There's got to be a better way."

What follows is a specific time schedule for the BikeTrain. Each stop has a
theme such as the American Discovery Trail, White's Hill tunnel, Biking and
Families, and Cycling for Everyday Transportation. Some of the speakers
include mountain biking pioneers Joe Breeze and Gary Fisher. Everyone is
welcome; join us at any point.

Members and friends of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition are also invited
to attend a camp-out and barbeque at the Olema Campgrounds on Friday,
October 15th beginning at 6 PM. If you'd like to camp-out, please leave a
message at (415) 289-2249. There is a van available to take supplies to the
campground which will be parked on Friday in Fairfax in Lucky's parking lot
(across from Sunshine Bikes) from 4-6 PM. If you'd like to come on the bike
ride, just show up at a station, and hop on board the BikeTrain.

BIKE/PED MASTER PLAN WORKSHOPS AND COMMENTS
This plan absolutely needs your input!!!

Tuesday, October 19, 7 PM: Mill Valley Council Chambers
26 Corte Madera Avenue, Mill Valley

Thursday, October 21, 7 PM: Hill Community Center, Novato

1560 B Hill Avenue, Novato

In order for the Marin County Bicycle Coalition to go into these important
meetings with the best possible preparation, THE MCBC IS SOLICITING YOUR
SUGGESTIONS as to what you think would be important improvements for Marin's
bicycle transit system.

From October 5 to October 15, dWolf and Joe Breeze will be incorporating
all our ideas into a streamlined, cohesive plan.

Some areas you may wish to address in detail or in general are:

* Gaps in the present bicycle route "system"
* Using abandoned rail corridors, tunnels, bridges
* Better roadway and pathway vehicle/pedestrian use delineation
* Bicycle parking
* Intermodal bicycle link-ups with bus and ferry
* Education
* Signage
* Maintenance
* Coordidor projects: N/W route (Bicycle Freeway) and E/W route

Please send your ideas ASAP to Joe Breeze to: jbleaux@aol.com - Thanks,
and see you at the workshops! Please think about specific projects you'd
like to see in your town.

BIKE RALLY AT THE RICHMOND-SAN RAFAEL BRIDGE
Saturday, October 30, 1999

MEET: 11:30 AM Larkspur Ferry terminal (at the newspaper racks)
10:30 AM Richmond BART station

A message from Bike the Bridge! Coalition'

Join us for another fun Rally at the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. This event
comes on the heels of the successful July 31st Rally, attended by nearly 250
cyclists.

The ride is Saturday October 30th. Come in costume! We are planning a
Halloween extravaganza at the bridge-- complete with a performance by the
Bike Ballet, a unicycle trio, and other circus acts! Superheroes will be
there, including Transit Man, the Transportation Fairy, Captain CALTRANS,
and other surprise appearances!

Each deck of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge has two vehicle lanes an a
twelve-foot wide shoulder. That makes the RSR Bridge ' with it's long sight
lines, excellent lighting, and lack of curves, -- completely viable for
equal access. In 1998, a Caltrans study recommended that cyclists and
pedestrians be granted immediate access to the bridge. But still, Caltrans
has kept the bridge closed. Come to the rally and show your support for
equal access and healthy, sustainable, alternative transportation.
